Phrygian Mode
Exotic with a middle-eastern flavour is the sound of the Phrygian mode. It is used extensively in Flamenco and Middle Eastern music, as well as Rock and Metal.
You can get to the Phrygian Mode by either:
- Adding a Minor Second (♭2) and Minor Sixth (♭6) to the Minor Pentatonic Scale,
- take the Natural Minor Scale and flatten the second scale degree (2➔♭2),
- start on the third degree of the Major Scale and adjust for the key,
- start of the fifth degree of the Minor Scale and adjust for the key.
